Family & Private Island Vacations

Crete

Crete, the largest Greek island is an excellent place to spend your vacations whether you want to party or just loose yourself yourself from everyday life. However, besides beautiful beaches and sunny wetter Crete offers much more.

Crete has a rich history and is often also referred as the cradle of Western civilization. The excavations conducted by famous English archaeologist Arthur Evans in Knossos in early 20th century revealed that Crete was the center of Europe's first advanced ancient civilization, known as Minoan civilization. For that reason Crete is a great vacation destination for everyone who likes history. Knossos closely associated with mythological King Minos and Minotaur, half-man and half-bull creature for whom the legendary artificer Daedalus designed and built the Labyrinth is definitely the most famous archaeological site in Crete but is only one of many historical sites worth of your visit.

Besides rich history Crete will please also the ones who like natural wonders. You can visit the national park Samaria Gorge which is the longest gorge in Europe and afterwards refresh yourself in nearby Matala beach with a view on artificial caves which were used as tombs in ancient times and occupied by the hippies in the 1960's. If you are looking for Cornwall Holiday Parks, you may want to checkout Perran Springs.

However, keep in mind that Crete is relatively large island extending about 260 kilometers from the east to west, so if you want to explore Crete as much as possible find a hotel or an apartment somewhere in the middle of northern or southern coast, except if you are not planning to stay for a while.
